What makes one wise? In a day and age where we have access to more information than we ever have before we are more distracted than ever, but have we grown in wisdom? Proverbs says the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and here Paul is pointing the Colossians to walk in the way of Jesus, which is the way of wisdom.
The letter to the Colossians makes it clear; Jesus is supreme, sufficient, preeminent, and over all things. Writing to a church that was facing distorted and false teaching, Paul seeks to set the record straight about who Jesus is, why He is sufficient over any other human philosophy, and what that means for how we should live in every aspect of our lives. Paul helps this young church discover what it means to believe in Jesus and what it looks like to follow Him. What Paul was proclaiming to them is for us as well. When we understand who Jesus is, it changes every aspect of life. All things: In Him, With Him, and For Him.
